L’ascesa di Declan Mckenna, il giovane cantautore e musicista britannico classe 1998, inizia nel 2015 quando si aggiudica il titolo di Miglior Artista Emergente all’Emerging Talent Competition del Glastonbury Festival. Dopo la sua vittoria NME l’ha definito «uno dei nuovi performer più ambiti» nel Regno Unito.
Dopo il successo del suo primo singolo autoprodotto “Brazil” sono oltre 40 le case discografiche che lo corteggiano, firma alla fine con Columbia Records.
A luglio 2017 pubblica il suo album di debutto, “What Do You Think About the Car?”. Prodotto da James Ford e registrato in uno studio a Kensal Green, il disco contiene i singoli “Paracetamol”, “Bethlehem”, “Isombard”, “The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home” e “Humongous”.
Nello stesso anno vince il BBC Music Award come artista dell’anno di BBC Introducing, programma radio sui talenti britannici esordienti.
Alla fine del 2019, Mckenna si reca a Nashville per registrare il suo secondo album, “Zeros”, con il produttore Jay Joyce. “Nashville è un ottimo posto per registrare perché è pieno di persone creative e appassionati di musica che cercano di scappare da Los Angeles”.
“Zeros” è giocoso, meravigliosamente strano e intensamente musicale, un disco curioso, unico e audace che pullula di nuove idee.
